Workers' Compensation insurance provides coverage for employees who are injured or become ill as a result of their job. It covers medical expenses, lost wages, rehabilitation costs, and death benefits. In most states, workers' comp is mandatory for employers.
For general contractors, verifying that every subcontractor carries workers' compensation coverage is critical. If a sub's employee is injured on your jobsite and the sub lacks coverage, the GC may be held liable under most state laws.
